Fiona
The Dog That Changed Cheryl’s Career Forever

A dog of her own, named Fiona, inspired Cheryl, formerly a dental assistant, to investigate the Karen Pryor method of Clicker Training. A lover of all things canine since she was a child, Cheryl says she learned force-based methods of training dogs early on.

But when the over-reactive Fiona, a doodle (standard poodle and Labrador retriever cross), came into her life, says Cheryl, being forceful backfired. “Fiona became more hyperactive. I realized I needed to teach her to relax and calm herself. I started taking classes and learning how to make that happen.

“Using a mark and reward technique, Clicker Training, was a lifesaver. It turned Fiona around. The miracle of it turned my life around, too.” Now eight and graying around the muzzle, Fiona continues to calm herself and is confident and full of joy.

Cheryl set out to learn all she could about the clicker phenomenon and became a professional dog trainer. She set up shop in 2011 and has since gained the support of Portland, Oregon area dog owners and trainers, as well as veterinarians.

"Wiley is Doing So Great!

Wiley and I went for a 6 mile hike this past weekend in Forest Park. We encountered quite a few different people and some dogs. Wiley was such an angel. He did not bark once. He was able to sit and keep focus as they walked right by. He even stayed calm when a group of about 8 joggers ran by us. He sniffed hello to another reactive dog (female) we encountered, hackles rose a little so we just walked away. We both had such an enjoyable and relaxing time.

Thank you so much for your wonderful training!"
